THE CLUMSY BEAR OF DENMARK: UNFILTERED PURE MALT VODKA
The Clumsy Bear launched in 2013 by owner and maker, Frederik Munk-Plum in the same year that his son was born. As part of Den Klodsede Bjørn Distillery, Frederik wanted to make a vodka that wasn’t part of the industrial sector.
“I wanted to make a real handmade vodka on pure malt with character, just as they would make it in Russia before 1917, and as they still make it in small towns like Samogon, Moonshine, and Hjemmebrænd.”
Frederik was inspired by his love for Russian literary culture. His unfiltered malt vodka does mimic the style of homemade Russian vodkas, unlike any other claimants to that title. Malted in-house at Trolden distillery from Danish wheat and barley, The Clumsy Bear is distilled in tiny pot stills, cut to bottle-proof and then bottled. There is no filtration, no fuss. Bottles may have some sediment but this comes from the natural residue from the grain, yeast and copper still.
We at SPIRIT PEOPLE are very luck to even get our hands on 100 bottles for Australian consumers each year.
